Xchange.me is a speculative software platform allowing the quick exchange (purchase, rental) of everyday objects. This short film imagines the narrative of provenance of a commonly exchanged object, as told from the point of view of the object.

After downloading the app, Xchange.me would only require a camera-equipped smartphone to identify, tag, and access the provenance of each object. For certain exchangeable goods, works of art or important design pieces, narratives of provenance are integral to the social valuation of the object. In the case of mass-produced goods such as records, magazines or lighters, the history mapping prior ownership may be more banal. However, narratives of provenance may help draw a different, perhaps more lateral network of relations within a social group.
